#ShapeRun and things I nv thought I would accomplish

its a little bit funny… what growing up means and does to you.. I for one have done a few things which i never thought i would at 16. it’s almost a decade now so i decided to make a list..

  1. Study beyond a Diploma
  2. Work in the IT/Manufacturing industry
  3. Holiday in the US/Europe before I’m 30
  4. Succumb to societal pressures (look pretty, stay slim, get married n have kids, what else?)
  5. Do any other form of exercise except my favourite sports (esp since I’m forever done with Napfa)

But guess what…

  1. Study beyond a Diploma I actually graduated with a Degree and a pretty decent GPA at that =O
  2. Work in the IT/Manufacturing industry IVE BEEN IN IT FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS!!?!?!?
  3. Holiday in the US/Europe before I’m 30 Thanks to Shawn being posted to the U.S. for training, his kind sponsorship and a lot of krisflyer miles… I’ve been to NY! and then there’s short after work trips in Orlando and SF…!! Blessed me
  4. Succumb to societal pressures (look pretty, stay slim, get married n have kids, what else?) I invest heavily on make-up, all things beauty & fashion and I lust for branded bags ๐Ÿ˜ฆ not to mention all the dieting
  5. Do any other form of exercise except my favourite sports (esp since I’m forever done with Napfa) ย …..

I COMPLETED MY FIRST EVER 10KM CHALLENGE WITH SHAPE RUN LAST SUNDAY!!! OMG WHAT DID I JUST DO TO MYSELF!! and i actually do feel very happy and accomplished! *oh the horror* I’m already planning to do more runs but this time for charity.. Like the Yellow Ribbon Run for ex-prisoners, Race against Cancer.. or maybe even the Passion Run for the kids… what say you?? (and if you can think of any more I should join, do let me know..) I’m also glad Shawn is very enthusiastic to join me on these runs!! we could be a couple who runs forย charity! ๐Ÿ˜› Branding in progress..
but anyhow, here are some pictures from the run! I apologize prior for the poor quality from my iphone’s front VGA camera ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

The love of Valentines, we give to Hope HIV

Hope HIV & QlikView

Hope HIV & QlikView

in the midst of my absence is way too many festivities, travels and catching up with work. Thus the regrettable neglect which I hope to catch up on. More pictures and insights to my recent travels and celebration would be ideal. But first, i return with a heartfelt entry on those who live in conditions and an environment far worst than ours but still find happiness that eludes first world countries.

This year, as part of our corporate social responsibility movement here at QlikTech, we have been tasked with 10USD from Hope HIV (and mind you, this 10bucks comes from the founder’s own pocket!) to multiply it by 10 through whatever means that proves useful. Personally, I don’t think 100USD is asking a lot especially from wage earners like us and personally, I believe in this because I have been finding ways to pay it back to society through little means and now that I have the opportunity sponsored by someone, I am going in with a bang. All it takes is to forgo just 1 month of my shopping splurges and put it to this good cause which can buy them a lifeline, education, medication, food & necessities and HOPE. The message sent to us during our Kick-off by founder of Hope HIV Phil Wall was simple yet powerful – HOPE. God gives me Hope and I’d like these kids to know of Hope too… ๐Ÿ™‚

Soooo… We’re challenging ourselves! Come 22 March 2012, us Qlikkies here in Singapore will be holding a Charity Drive! As most events are, this is just a teaser but I’m so excited about it and cant wait for the greatness to start happening! Once the details go public, I do promise you that blogging about it would be the first thing i do. Colleagues all over the world have resorted to so many creative ways to raise funds. Some guy ate Jalapenos, someone rented their Holiday home etc (Read about it here…)so let’s see what we can do! In the meantime, for those of you who think you may not want to attend events but still would like to give charity something, I have set up a page on JustGiving that would send the money straight to Hope HIV. No amount is too little for charity! You can access the page here (https://www.justgiving.com/QlikViewSGandHopeHIV) but i do want to point i to out to you that the currency is in Pounds!

Movember

What is the one thing Tom Selleck, George Clooney and Johnny Depp have in common? A set of perfectly trimmed moustache that makes them look sizzling hot and prolly was what made them an added bit famous. And November is your turn to have a go at looking sexy with moustache without being laughed at..

November is a month to support Prostate Cancer by growing a moustache in honour of Movember. We’ve had breast cancer awareness movements on Facebook, collars pins sold to raise money to help fight AIDs, so I’m glad to actually find out that Movember is celebrated to honour the man who fight Prostate Cancer and raise funds for research!

Here in Asia it seems growing a moustache may be challenging but there are more ways than one to show our support. For starters, do check out this page where Movember is explained and directions on how we can donate or take part in activities.
www.movember.com or visit a Singapore dedicated Facebook page where you can post the progress of your month long pursuit of the perfect moustache or attend events around Singapore to support and raise awareness for Prostate Cancer.

If you really can’t grow one out, here’s a little something to help you..

and for the ladies, if we arent so brave as to slap on that cut out while on the streets, here’s a little something that could get you part of it plus its fun!

So in whatever little ways we can get things going, let’s do it. ๐Ÿ™‚
P.S. i think Orlando Bloom looks adorps with a lil tresses!
